Open role
AI Engineer – FedRAMP / DoD Program
About the Role
AI Engineer – FedRAMP / DoD Program Location: United States (Remote) Must be US citizen We are hiring AI Engineers to design and build AI capabilities inside a custom, internally developed system. This is a ground-up build, not the configuration or integration of an off-the-shelf AI product. This is a remote position open to candidates located in the United States. The system operates in a federal environment that requires FedRAMP-aligned controls and Department of Defense (DoD) authorization. Engineers will work where AI, healthcare data (including medical coding workflows) and federal security compliance meet. All candidates must be U.S. Citizens. All positions require a DoD security badge and a Common Access Card (CAC). Start of work is contingent on credential approval (see Security, clearance and credentialing).
Responsibilities
Design, build, train and deploy AI/ML models and services within a proprietary, internally developed platform. Build AI features that support medical coding workflows, such as code suggestion, claims and documentation analysis, and coding validation. Engineer data pipelines for model training, evaluation and inference on protected health information (PHI) in a secure, compliant way. Implement and document security controls for AI components in line with FedRAMP and DoD requirements. Produce and maintain Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts (for example, System Security Plan inputs, control implementation statements and POA&M items) needed for an Interim Authority to Test (IATT). Partner with security, compliance and authorization teams through assessment, testing and remediation. Monitor model performance, accuracy, bias and drift; build testing and validation into the delivery lifecycle. Write clear technical documentation and support audit and authorization reviews.
Qualifications
All candidates must meet every requirement below. U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for DoD badge and CAC credentialing). AI build experience: Hands-on experience building AI/ML solutions from the ground up (model development, training, deployment and integration into a production system), not only configuring commercial AI tools. Minimum 2 years. Considerable FedRAMP experience: Demonstrated work delivering or supporting systems in FedRAMP environments, including implementing and documenting controls and supporting authorization activities. Minimum 5 years. Medical coding software: Experience working with medical coding software or systems (for example, ICD-10, CPT or HCPCS coding workflows, encoders, or computer-assisted coding tools). Security clearance eligibility: Able to obtain and maintain a DoD security badge. CAC eligibility: Must have an active CAC, or be able to pass the CAC process and apply immediately upon offer (see below). RMF knowledge: Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework and the artifacts required to reach an IATT. Required Skills CAC: Must currently hold an active CAC, or be able to pass the CAC process and obtain one. FedRAMP experience: Must have considerable hands-on FedRAMP experience (minimum 5 years). AI build experience: Must have built AI solutions from the ground up (minimum 5 years). U.S. Citizen: Must be a U.S. Citizen. DoD security badge: Must be able to clear for a DoD security badge. Preferred Skills Preferred qualifications Medical coding software: Must have worked with medical coding software. Active CAC at time of application. Active DoD security clearance. Prior experience on DoD Impact Level (IL4/IL5) or FedRAMP High systems. Experience with NLP or large language models applied to clinical documentation or coding. Experience with HIPAA and PHI handling in regulated healthcare environments. Background with large healthcare technology platforms. Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or a medical coding credential (CPC, CCS) ding credential (CPC, CCS).
