About the Role
VTG is seeking a Data Analyst to support the Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) Data team. The position is based in Washington, D.C. (preferred), with remote work eligibility. The SIB Data team collects, integrates, and analyzes supply chain, supplier, workforce, and shipyard data to help Navy leaders identify risks across the submarine industrial base and make informed decisions. The Data Analyst will respond to data requests, interpret findings, prepare reports for senior leadership, and collaborate with data engineering, data science, and data architecture teams. This is a hands-on role requiring strong Python and SQL skills, experience working with large datasets, and the ability to communicate complex analytical findings to senior government and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, log, and define data requests from program leadership and stakeholders, confirming the underlying questions, intended use, and deadlines. Research requests using authoritative and supplemental data sources, and query, reconcile, and validate information. Develop accurate and complete responses through written summaries, tables, reports, and visualizations. Document data sources, analytical methods, assumptions, and limitations to ensure results are repeatable and defensible. Maintain a library of previous data requests and responses to improve turnaround times and consistency. Write and execute ad hoc SQL queries and Python scripts to aggregate, clean, and analyze data. Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across systems. Apply data standards, naming conventions, and metadata requirements. Maintain the team's data dictionary and data catalog. Evaluate new and existing data sources for quality, completeness, and suitability. Identify data gaps, duplication, and conflicting information and recommend corrective actions. Support data governance practices, including data quality rules and appropriate handling and marking of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Work directly with senior government and VTG leadership to explain analytical findings, report reliability, data confidence, and program implications. Prepare and deliver executive summaries, briefings, and talking points for senior, non-technical audiences. Answer follow-up questions and translate technical details into clear, accessible language. Identify data trends, risks, and anomalies and recommend additional analysis where appropriate. Participate in working groups, program reviews, and technical exchange meetings as a member of the SIB Data team.
Required Qualifications

Experience researching and responding to data requests or data calls within deadlines, with documented sources and analytical methods. Experience presenting analysis and explaining reports to senior or executive-level decision-makers, both orally and in writing. Proficiency with standard business applications for presentations, word processing, spreadsheets, and SharePoint-based collaboration. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams.
