The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Director, Bridge Design, to join our Massachusetts team.

In this leadership role, you will help shape and grow PRIME AE’s bridge design practice throughout Massachusetts and the broader New England region. You will provide technical and operational leadership, oversee the successful delivery of bridge and structural projects, develop and mentor staff, strengthen key client relationships, and identify opportunities to expand the firm’s transportation portfolio.

What You’ll Do

As the Director, Bridge Design, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for bridge and structural design services while remaining actively engaged with clients, project teams, and major pursuits. You will oversee project delivery, technical quality, staffing, and team development while helping ensure projects meet client expectations for scope, schedule, budget, and quality.

You will also serve as a senior client-facing leader, developing relationships with transportation agencies and industry partners, supporting proposals and pursuits, and helping build a sustainable pipeline of bridge and structural work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for bridge and structural design services, supporting the continued growth of PRIME AE’s transportation practice.
  • Oversee the delivery of bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, and structural transportation projects, ensuring technical quality and successful project performance.
  • Provide senior-level technical guidance and quality oversight for plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, reports, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead bridge engineering staff while supporting workforce planning, workload management, technical development, and succession planning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with state DOTs, municipalities, transportation agencies, teaming partners, and other key clients.
  • Lead and support business development, proposals, pursuits, presentations, contract negotiations, and strategic teaming opportunities to expand the bridge project portfolio.
  • Monitor project and practice performance, including scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, utilization, and overall project delivery.
  • Collaborate with transportation and corporate leadership across PRIME AE to identify growth opportunities, share resources, and expand bridge capabilities throughout Massachusetts and the broader region.

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Significant progressive experience in bridge/structural engineering, project delivery, and leadership, including responsibility for complex transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, with Massachusetts licensure.
  • Strong technical expertise in bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, structural analysis, and applicable AASHTO and transportation agency standards.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, technical staff, project managers, and complex bridge/structural programs.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with public transportation agencies, clients, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated success with business development, proposal development, project pursuits, client development, and building project backlog.
  • Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, strategic planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience with MassDOT and MBTA is required.
