About the Company

Come Near is a mission-driven nonprofit focused on raising public awareness about Jesus through authentic stories and experiences. The organization is widely recognized for its “He Gets Us” campaign, which has reached millions of Americans since launching in 2021.

About the Role

Come Near is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to lead the technical development of its personalized digital engagement platform. As part of a lean, fully distributed team, you will build and maintain features across the web platform, working on everything from user interfaces and APIs to infrastructure and data integrations. You will collaborate with internal team members and external engineering partners to deliver reliable digital experiences, including during high-traffic events and major media campaigns. Candidates must be willing to sign the organization's Statement of Faith, which aligns with Come Near's mission.

Key Responsibilities

Develop production-ready applications using Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui while following established architecture and technical standards. Implement and maintain caching strategies, CDN configurations, and edge infrastructure using Cloudflare, Vercel, or comparable platforms. Work within the AWS environment to deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot services. Integrate with data and personalization pipelines while handling personal and sensitive user information according to established privacy and security practices. Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on code quality, performance, and maintainability. Collaborate with external vendor engineering teams on shared codebases, following established integration contracts and API patterns. Coordinate project handoffs and status updates with distributed team members and vendor engineers across time zones. Maintain clear documentation to support asynchronous collaboration, including pull requests, runbooks, and technical design documents. Write and maintain automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing layers. Troubleshoot production issues, including performance and reliability challenges during high-traffic events.

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building full stack web applications. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong hands-on experience with Next.js and React. Working knowledge of Tailwind CSS and component libraries such as shadcn/ui. Practical experience with caching strategies, CDN configuration, and edge platforms such as Cloudflare or Vercel. Working knowledge of AWS services used in modern web applications, including S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudFront. Experience writing and maintaining automated tests, including unit, integration, and/or end-to-end tests. Experience working in shared codebases, reviewing other engineers' code, and receiving code review feedback. Strong full stack fundamentals, with the ability to work across frontend, API, and infrastructure concerns. Ability to manage assigned tasks independently and deliver work with minimal supervision. Clear written and technical communication skills, with the ability to document decisions, progress, and outstanding work.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience collaborating with external agencies or vendor engineering teams. Exposure to analytics or event-tracking pipelines. Familiarity with AI/ML-powered product features from an integration or consumption perspective. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. Personal Attributes Personal relationship with Jesus and a genuine interest in Come Near's mission. Commitment to service, humility, and collaborative leadership. Proactive, detail-oriented approach to planning and execution. Practical problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify risks early and deliver working solutions without unnecessary complexity. Curiosity, openness to feedback, and willingness to learn from other engineers. Ability to work effectively in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
