Product Prototyping Intern
Made in Order (MIO) is an early-stage Washington, D.C. technology company building productivity and workflow software for Capitol Hill and the advocacy community. MIO's founders bring more than 40 years of combined Capitol Hill experience, along with decades of experience in the startup and technology sectors. MIO's first products, MIO Vote and MIO HPO, are in beta testing, and MIO Advocate, a product for advocacy and government relations teams, is in development. This internship offers hands-on experience building and testing software products at an early-stage startup. The intern will work with MIO's CTO, Ben Dappen, and product owners to explore and prototype new workflows, features, and product ideas, using AI and other modern tools to turn ideas into working concepts. Projects may include: Working with product owners to understand user needs and translate ideas into prototypes Designing and testing new workflows, features, and product concepts Using AI-assisted development and prototyping tools to quickly create and refine ideas Exploring how congressional and advocacy workflows can be improved through technology Gathering feedback from the team and users and incorporating it into new versions Researching new technologies and approaches that could strengthen MIO's products Documenting prototypes and helping prepare successful concepts for further development Strong candidates will be curious, creative, comfortable learning new technology, and excited to experiment. Experience with product design, software development, user experience, design tools like Figma, no-code or low-code tools, or AI-assisted development is helpful, but a willingness to learn and build is most important. Learning and Mentorship This internship is designed as an educational experience. Jeremy Marcus, MIO's founder and CEO, directly supervises and mentors each intern through regular one-on-one check-ins, feedback on every project, and guidance on career goals, and MIO's CTO provides hands-on technical guidance. Interns set learning goals with Jeremy at the start of the internship and review their progress at the end. Intern projects are learning assignments that complement the work of MIO's team. They do not replace it. Interns work alongside MIO's leadership and development team, but they are not responsible for core product development and do not take the place of paid staff. MIO is glad to work with students and their schools to arrange academic credit, and will complete any learning agreements, evaluations, or other paperwork a school requires. Schedules are flexible and built around each student's classes and exams. Internship Details Dates: January to June 2027, with some flexibility on start date Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week Location: Fully remote and open to students anywhere in the U.S. Compensation: Unpaid. The internship does not carry an expectation of pay or of a paid position at its conclusion.
