[Remote] CONTENT & COMMUNICATIONS LEAD

Remote · Netherlands Full-time

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. All Hands & Hearts is a nonprofit that supports disaster recovery and helps children return to school. The Content & Communications Lead sets the organization’s content direction and manages storytelling across blog, email, social, and other channels to build awareness, engagement, and fundraising. During disaster activations, the role coordinates timely, accurate, and dignified response communications with Development, Operations, and field teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and carry out the content strategy, aligned to organizational priorities and fundraising goals
  • Maintain core messaging, key talking points, and brand voice guidance, and keep them consistent across channels and teams
  • Advise communications leadership and program teams on messaging for campaigns, announcements, etc
  • Draft key messages and statements as needed, and hand off to Communications leadership
  • Capture, write, and produce stories that showcase programs, milestones, and community impact
  • Ensure a pipeline of ready-to-use content across all four pillars for social, email, website, donor reports, and press
  • Maintain a well-organized, tagged content library on Google Drive and website (by pillar, program, geography, and theme)
  • Own the quality and timeliness of written and social content, and uphold AH&H's brand voice, dignity, authenticity, and safeguarding standards
  • Plan, write, and edit weekly blog posts and long-form stories that center community voices and show program impact
  • Own the editorial calendar and keep a pipeline of ready-to-publish stories across all four pillars
  • Contribute core content for flagship products such as the Annual Report, Giving Tuesday/EOY campaigns, impact newsletters, and donor stewardship series
  • Apply a "leverage and adapt" approach: build core stories once and repurpose them across channels
  • Write, build, and send weekly newsletters and response emails in ActiveCampaign or similar
  • Plan email calendars and segment audiences in coordination with Development
  • Test and analyze performance, and use results to improve future sends
  • Set strategy and manage the content calendar for organizational social channels (Instagram, Threads, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok)
  • Edit copy and format for each platform and audience
  • Manage content from the visual content creator and multimedia content producer
  • Monitor engagement and community conversation, and respond or escalate as needed
  • Edit b-roll and photos for social media as needed
  • Lead content for disaster activations across blog, email, website, and social
  • Scale output quickly, in close alignment with Communications leadership and Development, to meet real-time fundraising and media needs
  • Identify and secure on-the-ground content creators
  • Gather real-time information, stories, and assets from field teams, and package them for immediate use
  • Share the experiences of survivors, staff, and volunteers, and the hurdles on the ground, with accuracy and dignity
  • Create clear creative briefs and guidance for field staff, volunteers, and external creatives capturing stories and visuals in response zones
  • Provide basic storytelling and content-capture guidance to on-the-ground content creators and program staff
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills

  • Equivalent professional experience in storytelling, photography, videography, or content creation
  • 5+ years of experience in writing, photography, videography, or multimedia storytelling, ideally within the nonprofit, humanitarian, or media sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written and visual content under tight deadlines and in challenging environments
  • Experience gathering stories directly from the field and transforming them into emotionally engaging, human-centered narratives
  • Proficient with content management and distribution tools: WordPress/Gutenberg CMS, ActiveCampaign (or similar ESP), and major social media platforms (Instagram, Threads, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok)
  • Familiarity in photography, videography, and multimedia editing — including use of programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and CapCut (or similar)
  • Ability to produce, edit, and package visual stories optimized for web and social media platforms
  • Experience using design and publishing tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and collaboration tools like Google Workspace, Slack, Zeck, and Notion
  • Highly organized, with a flexible approach to managing multiple priorities and balancing steady pipelines with rapid response needs
  • Thrives in both structured content planning and fast-moving, unpredictable environments
  • Cross-culturally sensitive with the ability to listen, observe, and engage respectfully in diverse settings
  • Use AI as an assistant, not as a writer. Apply AI tools intelligently for grammar, structure, ideation, and research — but never let them write the draft. AH&H content must read as authentic, human-voiced, and recognizably distinct from AI-generated copy
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in writing, photography, videography, or multimedia storytelling, ideally within the nonprofit, humanitarian, or media sectors
