The Data Security Engineer will support the implementation and ongoing operation of data access controls within the Databricks Lakehouse environment, managing permissions, security controls, infrastructure as code, audits, and access guidance.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation of the Databricks access control model
• Manage data structures, permissions, and tagging within Unity Catalog
• Maintain security controls for sensitive data, including filtered and masked access
• Keep access controls managed as code using Terraform and related tools
• Partner with admins and platform teams to keep access controls aligned across the environment
• Support audits, reporting, and documentation related to data access
• Provide day-to-day guidance to engineers on tagging and access requests

Skills

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of related experience, degree in software engineering, data engineering or a related technical field. 3 years with a Master's degree in a relevant discipline
• Familiarity with access control concepts, including RBAC and ABAC
• Experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, and familiarity with Databricks system tables, audit logs, and access reporting
• Working knowledge of SQL and Python
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and the use of Terraform
• Familiarity with cloud IAM concepts such as groups, roles, policies, and service principals in AWS
• Experience supporting data classification, data governance, or data tagging
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work within established governance and approval processes
• Experience supporting technical or operational aspects of compliance requirements such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or GDPR
