Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Mateina is hiring a Controller to own accounting and financial reporting across its Canadian and US entities. The role oversees the monthly close, cash management, tax compliance, inventory and COGS tracking, investor reporting, and improvements to financial processes and controls.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close for our Canadian and US entities, including consolidation, intercompany and FX
• Produce accurate monthly financial statements and management reporting
• Manage AR and AP, including retailer and distributor deductions, chargebacks and trade spend reconciliation
• Support cash management and the weekly cash flow forecast
• Track inventory and COGS across co-packers, 3PLs and sales channels
• Manage US sales tax compliance and coordinate with our external accountants on Canadian indirect tax (GST/QST), year-end and corporate tax
• Support investor reporting, fundraising diligence and data room preparation
• Manage and develop our Accounting Clerk
• Continuously improve our systems, processes and internal controls

Skills

• CPA (US or Canada)
• 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally a mix of public accounting and industry
• Experience in CPG, food or beverage, ideally with retail and distributor accounts (Whole Foods, UNFI, KeHE, Costco)
• Multi-entity experience, ideally across Canada and the US
• Strong understanding of trade spend, deductions and inventory accounting
• Strong Excel skills; experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar
• Experience with Canadian entities or cross-border (Canada/US) accounting is a strong plus
• Experience supporting a venture-backed company through a fundraise or audit
