Open role
[Remote] Founding Embedded Systems Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. HALO Chip is building next-generation GPS pet safety hardware, including low-power wearables that track pets in real time. The Founding Embedded Systems Engineer will build firmware for the device, integrating sensors, connectivity, power management, and over-the-air updates while helping define the product from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Firmware development for a battery-powered, sensor-driven wearable device
- GPS, accelerometer, and BLE/cellular connectivity integration
- Power optimization to maximize battery life on constrained hardware
- Over-the-air firmware update systems
- Bringing up and debugging hardware prototypes alongside our hardware team
- Working directly with the founder and engineering leadership to shape the product from the ground up
Skills
- Solid foundation in C/C++ and embedded systems fundamentals (interrupts, memory management, real-time constraints)
- Coursework, personal projects, internships, or work experience with microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, nRF, or similar)
- Comfort working with hardware, oscilloscopes, debuggers, soldering irons, breadboards
- A builder's mindset, you'd rather prototype and iterate than wait for a perfect spec
- Excitement about joining a very early-stage startup and helping shape it
- Familiarity with RTOS concepts (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar) is a plus, not required
Benefits
- This role is equity-only until we close our $1.5M pre-seed round, which we expect to happen soon.
- Once funding closes, the role converts to salary plus equity.
