Company Description

BenchCAD is an open research initiative focused on advancing how AI understands, reasons about, and builds the 3D physical world. The organization explores cutting-edge methods in computational design, simulation, and machine learning to enable more intelligent modeling of real-world environments and objects. BenchCAD collaborates openly with the research community, encouraging transparent sharing of methods, results, and tools. Team members have the opportunity to contribute to foundational work that can impact fields such as robotics, manufacturing, architecture, and virtual reality. Role Description The Researcher role at BenchCAD is a remote position responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing research experiments related to AI understanding and generation of 3D physical environments. Day-to-day work includes developing and testing algorithms, building and evaluating datasets, implementing prototypes, and documenting findings in clear, reproducible formats. The Researcher will collaborate with other team members to review literature, define research questions, and iterate on models and metrics based on experimental results. This role also involves preparing technical reports, contributing to publications or open-source repositories, and participating in regular discussions to refine research direction and share outcomes.

Qualifications

Strong foundation in machine learning, computer vision, or computational geometry, with a focus on 3D data or physical modeling. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for research (such as Python or C++) and experience with relevant libraries or frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, or 3D modeling tools). Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings clearly in written and verbal form. Familiarity with academic or applied research practices, including literature review, reproducible workflows, and version control. Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively across distributed teams. Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related discipline) or equivalent practical research experience. Experience with open-source contributions, simulation environments, robotics, or CAD tools is a plus.
