Why This Role Matters

Data is the lifeblood of modern enterprises. At brighthush, we build and maintain the pipelines that ingest, process, and deliver petabytes of telemetry and operational data from devices around the globe. As a Senior Data Engineering & Pipeline Architect, you will be at the forefront of this mission, ensuring that our data flows are reliable, efficient, and secure. Your work will directly influence product decisions, customer experiences, and the overall health of our platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain high‑throughput data ingestion pipelines that handle diverse data types from edge devices to cloud services.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—product, engineering, security, and analytics—to define data requirements, quality standards, and performance metrics.
  • Lead the development of scalable data architectures using modern big‑data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes.
  • Ensure data integrity, privacy, and compliance with industry regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) through robust validation, encryption, and access controls.
  • Mentor junior engineers and data specialists, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to reduce latency and cost.
  • Document data schemas, pipeline workflows, and best practices to support onboarding and knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical data services.
  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and propose innovative solutions that enhance our data ecosystem.
  • Champion data quality initiatives, establishing automated testing, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Collaborate with security teams to embed privacy‑by‑design principles into every stage of the data lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement by conducting post‑mortem analyses and implementing lessons learned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data pipeline development, or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, Java, Scala, Go, or Rust.
  • Hands‑on experience with big‑data frameworks: Hadoop (HDFS, YARN), Spark, Flink, Kafka, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for data workloads.
  • Solid grasp of data security principles, including encryption, tokenization, and role‑based access control.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining high quality.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and metadata management tools.
  • Familiarity with real‑time streaming analytics and event‑driven architectures.
  • Prior exposure to regulated industries (finance, healthcare, telecommunications) and their compliance requirements.
  • Contributions to open‑source data projects or active participation in data engineering communities.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks for data pipelines (e.g., Great Expectations, dbt).
  • Proficiency in performance tuning and cost‑optimization for cloud‑based data services.
