About The Role Starapple is looking for an experienced PHP Developer to join its close-knit development team. You will work on varied client projects, building and improving custom WordPress solutions for demanding, high-traffic environments. The team plans its work in two-week Scrum sprints, using collaborative sessions to break down client requests and agree on practical priorities. As part of a small team, you will have meaningful responsibility from the outset. You will contribute ideas, assess technical approaches, and help shape solutions that are reliable, sustainable, and suited to each client’s needs. You will work closely with the founders, who remain actively involved in development, as well as other employees and freelance colleagues. This role suits a developer who enjoys autonomy while recognizing that strong products are created through shared knowledge and teamwork.

Qualifications

You have at least five years of relevant professional experience in PHP development and practical experience working with WordPress. You are confident creating custom plugins and building bespoke functionality rather than relying solely on off-the-shelf solutions. You understand the importance of unit testing, design patterns, and consistent coding standards, and you apply these principles in your day-to-day work. You can take ownership of your work, make sound technical decisions, and work independently in a remote setting. At the same time, you communicate clearly, collaborate constructively, and are comfortable discussing solutions with teammates. Experience with Symfony is an advantage. A genuine interest in technology and a commitment to producing robust, maintainable software will help you thrive in this position.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and improve custom WordPress applications and plugins using PHP. Build and support integrations tailored to client requirements, with attention to performance and reliability in high-traffic environments. Write and maintain unit tests, follow established coding standards, and apply suitable design patterns to keep solutions clear and sustainable. Participate in Scrum planning, stand-ups, and other sprint activities; break down requests into manageable development tasks; and communicate progress and challenges with the team. Take responsibility for assigned work, contribute ideas during technical discussions, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver quality outcomes for clients across the media sector.
