Casualty Underwriter -Renewals
Renewals - West Coast based Most renewal underwriters don’t leave their jobs because of the work. They leave because the work gets buried under legacy systems, pointless admin, and enough internal politics to power a small nation. If that sounds familiar, keep reading. If it doesn’t… well, you’re either lying to yourself or you’ve already joined us. Ledgebrook is building something different. Not “disruption for the sake of a TED Talk” different. Actually different. We’ve built a platform that lets good underwriters… underwrite. Not click through 29 screens. Not wait six weeks for an endorsement approval. Not rekey the same information into four systems because “that’s how we’ve always done it.” And right now, we’re looking for an experienced Renewal Casualty Underwriter with strong E&S General Liability and/or Unsupported Excess experience to help us grow a profitable renewal book. What You’ll Actually Do Underwrite and manage a renewal portfolio across a mix of E&S casualty segments Talk to brokers like a human being, not a robot following a script Decide what’s worth renewing, what isn’t, and price accordingly Help shape a renewal book that’s profitable on purpose — not by accident Bring discipline, judgement, and a bit of backbone to the table We work with wholesale brokers, so having those relationships already in place is a big advantage. If your phone actually rings when brokers think renewal is going sideways, you’re our kind of underwriter. What You Actually Need 3+ years in casualty underwriting, ideally with real E&S renewal experience Experience with admitted and non-admitted paper A working brain (non-negotiable) Ability to make decisions without a 14-person committee Comfort working remotely Enough entrepreneurial spirit to enjoy building instead of maintaining A bias for action, not excuses The ability to travel occasionally without making a big song and dance about it What You WON’T Need To fight archaic systems To sit in unnecessary meetings To pretend you enjoy bureaucracy To apologise for having standards Why Ledgebrook? Because if you’re a good underwriter, you’re probably fed up with the nonsense that stops you being one. We’re trying to remove all that. If you want a place that values judgement over politics, speed over ceremony, and performance over posturing — apply. If you prefer the safety of the old environment you don’t like but tolerate… maybe stay put.
