The role The Controller owns the close, the controls and the reporting across SIM IP’s group of operating and IP-holding companies, and is the CFO’s partner on the audit, lender reporting and bringing our reporting to public-company standards. You review exceptions with the CFO; you do not hand over work for the CFO to finish. What you own

• Monthly close. Package by business day 10, every bank account reconciled to the statement, periods locked by day 15. You review the outsourced accountants’ entries before anything reaches the CFO.
• Payables and legal spend. Invoice intake, the engagement-letter and fee-cap register across about 25 law firms, quarterly legal accruals, and payment controls. No payment without an executed letter; no duplicates.
• Lender and investor reporting. Monthly, quarterly and annual compliance certificates under the credit facility, IP owner reports, and the financial model tied to actuals.
• Audit. Request lists, support and the standing accounting positions for the annual PCAOB audit and quarterly reviews.
• Public-company readiness. Bring the close, controls and reporting up to public-company standards: SEC-ready financial statements and footnotes and documented internal controls.
• Controls. Entity master list, deadline calendar, and a check of every document before it goes to a lender, auditor or counterparty.
• Tax coordination. Estimated payments, franchise filings and K-1s with the outside tax firm, planned ahead rather than at the due date.
• Payroll and benefits accounting. Payroll journal entries, GL mapping, benefits and 401(k) reconciliations, and the accounting side of the payroll platform transition, working in partnership with the HR Manager.

What you bring

• Active CPA license and Big 4 or national-firm audit experience. At least five years as a controller or assistant controller, including two or more as controller of a multi-entity business with $100 million or more in revenue or assets, or of an SEC registrant.
• Multi-entity consolidation in NetSuite; intercompany and eliminations.
• Public company reporting experience: preparing 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K financial statements and footnotes, SOX controls, and working with PCAOB auditors. IPO, de-SPAC or S-1 / S-4 experience a plus. Credit facility covenant reporting.
• ASC 606 licensing revenue, ASC 805 / 350 intangibles and ASC 718 a plus.
• AI-forward mindset. Fully embraces AI, automation, and emerging technologies; proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and drive efficiency across accounting and financial reporting.
• Finishes work without being chased: what you hand over is checked, reconciled and ready to send.

• Run the first two full month-end closes after your start date to standard, with no CFO rework.
• Reconcile open law firm ledgers and get the engagement-letter register current.
• Prepare the next quarterly lender package.

Compensation and benefits

• $150,000 to $185,000, set within that range by experience and credentials, plus an annual discretionary bonus.
