Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Part Time Accountant to join our team as either a W-2 employee or a 1099 independent contractor. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic professional to manage our financial operations. This is a comprehensive, hands-on role where you will own everything from project-level accounting to critical reconciliations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive, mastery-level experience in QuickBooks Desktop and possesses a deep understanding of job costing, monthly loan reconciliations, and running in-house payroll natively within the QuickBooks Desktop environment for both hourly and salaried project staff. Core Responsibilities Job Costing & Project Tracking: Allocate labor hours (for both hourly and salaried staff), subcontractor fees, materials, and overhead expenses to specific engineering projects. Track project profitability and generate actual-vs-budget variance reports for project managers. In-House Payroll: Execute full-cycle payroll processing directly in-house using QuickBooks Desktop for a blended team of salaried and hourly employees across a few states Ensure precise withholding, tracking, and compliance with varying state labor and tax laws. Loan & Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Perform comprehensive monthly loan reconciliations to ensure accurate tracking of corporate debt, interest expenses, and principal balances. QuickBooks Management: Maintain and optimize our QuickBooks Desktop environment. Ensure clean data entry, manage the general ledger, and perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. Financial Reporting: Generate, compile, and deliver accurate corporate financial reporting as needed by ownership. Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage vendor invoicing, subcontractor payments, and client billing. Execute proactive collections to optimize corporate cash flow. Compliance & Tax Support: Prepare annual 1099s, manage state/local business licenses in all active jurisdictions, and assemble clean financial packages for our external CPA at year-end.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with project lump sum and hourly billing contracts. Software Mastery: Extensive, hands-on experience using QuickBooks Desktop Premier for core accounting functions. Payroll Experience: Direct experience processing full-cycle payroll in-house using QuickBooks Desktop, including a few States compliance and managing both hourly and salaried employee payroll cycles. Specialized Knowledge: Proven track record of executing job costing and labor burden allocation in a project-based service industry. Salary: Competitive compensation based on experience. Work Structure: Hybrid arrangement in Office 2 days the first week of the month and then employee choice remote or in office remainder of the month.
