Lighthouse Autism Center is seeking a Data Platform and BI Engineer to build and support trusted data models, semantic layers, and analytics for clinical, operational, and financial decision-making. The role spans data modeling, governance, Power BI reporting, performance and security, and partnership with business and technology teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain dimensional data models that support enterprise reporting across clinical, operations, and finance domains
- Build and manage reusable, certified semantic models in Power BI/Microsoft Fabric to serve as a single source of truth
- Define and maintain conformed dimensions, fact table grain, slowly changing dimensions, and business logic
- Partner with engineering on source ingestion, transformation, and warehouse design
- Maintain a data dictionary, business glossary, and lineage documentation for key data assets
- Contribute to data governance standards, including data quality rules, naming conventions, and master data definitions
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and prioritize analytics work
- Develop dashboards, reports, paginated reports, and alerts primarily in Power BI
- Write efficient, well-structured DAX and Power Query (M), and optimize model and report performance
- Implement row-level and object-level security aligned to HIPAA and least-privilege access requirements
- Apply Agile practices to deliver iteratively and refine solutions with the business
- Use source control and deployment pipelines (Git, Fabric/Power BI deployment pipelines) to manage development, test, and production environments
- Build monitoring and operational reporting for data freshness, pipeline health, SLAs, and error tracking
- Troubleshoot and resolve BI-related support tickets
- Create technical, troubleshooting, and end-user documentation
- Manage workspace, app, and dataset access in coordination with the infrastructure team
- Support user adoption through training, office hours, and self-service enablement
- Develop deep expertise in LAC's data sources, including clinical/practice management, billing, HR, and financial systems
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, making consultative recommendations on data-driven approaches to reporting, process improvement, and decision-making
- Support, maintain, and enhance existing reports, semantic models, and data structures to ensure accuracy, performance, and continued relevance
Skills
- Expert T-SQL: window functions, set-based loaders, MERGE/upsert patterns, hashing for change detection, index-aware query design, and stored-procedure development on Azure SQL / SQL Server
- Dimensional modeling: star schemas, conformed dimensions, SCD Type 1 and 2, surrogate-key strategy, grain design, and event-sourced versus snapshot tradeoffs
- Azure Data Factory: incremental and watermark loads, pipeline orchestration, triggers, integration runtimes, and JSON source control
- Power BI: advanced DAX (context transition, relationship functions, performance), Power Query M, PBIP/TMDL source control, and report design for operational users
- SSDT / database projects: Schema Compare, disciplined manual deployment, and dev/prod parity
- Git and documentation discipline
- Strong data-quality instincts: you reconcile across systems before you trust a number, and you fix problems at the source
- Familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare data privacy, access controls, audit readiness, and operational compliance expectations
- Dimensional modeling: designs star schemas with clear grain, conformed dimensions, and reusable semantic models
- Power BI & Fabric expertise: writes efficient DAX and Power Query, and tunes model and report performance
- Advanced SQL: writes complex, performant queries and traces data issues back to the source
- Data governance & security: protects PHI through row-level security, clear definitions, and quality standards
- Business partnership: turns vague questions into defined KPIs and drives agreement on metric logic
- Disciplined delivery: works iteratively with Agile, source control, and thorough testing
- Clear communication: explains technical concepts plainly to clinical, operational, and executive audiences
- Ownership: works independently in a remote setting and takes end-to-end accountability for production solutions

- 5+ years in data engineering, BI development, or analytics engineering, with at least 2 years owning a production warehouse
- Working knowledge of predictive analytics techniques, such as forecasting, trend analysis, or statistical modeling, to extend BI beyond historical reporting
- Familiarity with database administration, including performance tuning, indexing, backups, and security in SQL Server or Azure SQL
Benefits
- Fully remote in the United States
