Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Hatch Talent is recruiting for an engineering team at Thomson Reuters building AI-powered products. The Engineering Manager will lead backend and platform teams, guide technical direction and architecture, and scale the systems supporting these products.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of talented software engineers working on backend and platform systems
• Own the technical direction, architecture and delivery of core engineering services
• Work on scalable, reliable systems supporting AI-powered applications
• Collaborate with product managers, engineering leaders and other teams to define priorities and deliver impactful solutions
• Guide technical decisions involving system design, performance, reliability and scalability
• Help engineers grow through mentorship, feedback and technical guidance
• Improve engineering processes, development practices and overall team effectiveness
• Balance hands-on technical involvement with engineering leadership and strategic decision-making

Skills

• Strong software engineering background, ideally with 7+ years of professional experience
• Experience building backend services, APIs, distributed systems or platform infrastructure
• Experience leading engineers, whether as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Staff Engineer or similar
• Strong understanding of software architecture, system design and engineering best practices
• Ability to make sound technical decisions and communicate effectively across teams
• Experience working on production software at scale
• Comfortable taking ownership, solving ambiguous problems and working collaboratively
• If you're an Engineering Manager, experienced Tech Lead or senior technical leader with a strong backend or platform engineering background, we'd love to hear from you
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, search technologies, data platforms, developer tooling or AI-powered products is beneficial, but not essential
