Staff PHP Engineer

Remote · United States Full-time

About The Company Motion Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing, healthcare-adjacent software company to hire a Staff Software Engineer. The client builds enterprise software and has established a strong platform in its market. Its products support complex business needs, where dependable systems, thoughtful data architecture, and strong application performance are essential. The engineering team is continuing to develop and improve its platform, with opportunities to shape major product areas and contribute to new initiatives. The company’s primary technology stack includes PHP, Laravel, Vue.js, and MySQL. Engineers with experience in comparable technologies such as Ruby, Node.js, React, Angular, Ember, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server are encouraged to apply. This is a fully remote, full-time position open to candidates authorized to work in the United States. About The Role As Staff Software Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across complex, high-impact initiatives. This is an individual contributor role, not a people-management position. You will help define architecture and technical direction for significant areas of the product while continuing to write and review production code every day. You will collaborate with engineering colleagues and partners to turn product needs into scalable, reliable software. The role offers the chance to make meaningful contributions early, with work expected to ship during your first quarter. You will also have room to help architect green-field products and influence how the engineering organization approaches design, development, and quality. The team works around U.S. business hours, with flexibility for you to manage your pace while coordinating effectively with colleagues.

Qualifications

You bring at least eight years of senior-level full-stack web development experience and a record of delivering enterprise-scale applications. You have advanced working knowledge of PHP, Laravel, Vue.js, and MySQL, or strong experience with equivalent languages, frameworks, and databases. You understand how data architecture and query performance affect systems operating at scale. You have served as a technical lead for complex initiatives, can explain technical decisions clearly, and have a history of mentoring experienced engineers. You are interested in a role with substantial coding responsibility and prefer technical leadership over a people-management track. Experience with green-field architecture, design reviews, code reviews, technical interviews, or hiring standards is valuable. Familiarity with AI development tools is welcome, as is the judgment to assess their output and apply them appropriately.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture and technical direction for major product areas, balancing near-term delivery with long-term maintainability. Design, build, test, and ship full-stack features, contributing directly to application code across the company’s technology stack. Develop scalable solutions for enterprise workflows, with careful attention to database design, query efficiency, reliability, and performance. Mentor engineers through technical guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing. Participate in design and code reviews, helping establish practices that improve quality and consistency. Work closely with engineering and cross-functional partners to clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver dependable solutions. Where appropriate, contribute to technical interviews and help shape hiring standards. Use development tools, including AI-assisted tools when useful, while applying sound engineering judgment.

Benefits

The anticipated salary range is $180,000–$220,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; flexible paid time off; a 401(k); stock options; company-paid disability and life insurance; and paid family and medical leave. This is a full-time, fully remote opportunity based in the United States. Equal Opportunity Motion Recruitment and its client are committed to providing an inclusive hiring process. Applicants are considered based on their skills, experience, and qualifications. Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, both now and in the future.
