American University seeks a part-time Grant Writer / Researcher to help its Museum and College of Arts and Sciences University Advancement staff secure funding for exhibitions, local artists, and education and community programs. The role researches funding opportunities, writes proposals, tracks grant deadlines, and supports funder relationships for the Alper Initiative for Washington Art.

Responsibilities

• Research, identify, and review federal, state, public and private foundation and corporate funding opportunities and evaluate strategic alignment with AU, AU Museum and the Alper Initiative for Washington Art to determine grants to pursue. Analyze funder giving histories, average award sizes, giving priorities, and geographic and any other relevant restrictions
• Write narrative proposal for specialized projects including exhibitions, curatorial research, local DMV artist, curator and community outreach
• Assist in setting AUM’s grant calendar to track letter of inquiry (LOI) dates, proposal deadlines and pre-award logistics
• Help build lasting relationships with foundation officers, government representatives and corporate sponsors through strategic communication and updates

Skills

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• 3 - 5 years of relevant experience
• Experience working within a university system
• Master's degree or equivalent
