Rachel Paul Recruiting is representing a seed-stage startup in the nuclear energy sector that partners with power plants to develop AI models for nuclear data and content. The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack and backend systems, including data ingestion, search infrastructure, APIs, databases, distributed systems, and LLM workflows. The role also involves testing, deployment, identity and authentication infrastructure, and contributing to system architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, AI, and infrastructure engineers to design and build scalable data ingestion and search infrastructure
• Develop and maintain reusable and efficient code using Python, Node.js and other relevant technologies
• Identify and address performance issues, ensuring optimal speed and responsiveness of the applications
• Design and implement scalable backend systems that ensure high performance and reliability across multiple environments
• Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure the highest level of quality and
• Contribute to our LLM workflows
• Work on identity/auth infrastructure (Keycloak, SAML/OAuth) supporting enterprise customer SSO integrations
• Weigh in on system architecture decisions and technical tradeoffs, from data source design to model integration

Skills

• MUST BE A U.S. Citizen
• 8+ years of professional full-stack experience
• Comfortable autonomously owning a feature from database to UI
• Strong proficiency in Python, Node.js, TypeScript, and SQL
• Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and integrating backend services with frontend applications
• Solid understanding of databases, query optimization, and performance tuning
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Prior production delivery experience (startup environment a plus) over pure research background
• Prefer experience with PyTorch, vLLM, Trition, embeddings
• Prefer experience with ElasticSearch & PostgreSQL
• Experience with, or strong interest in, LLM/RAG systems: retrieval, ranking, and safely
• Experience with identity/auth systems (Keycloak, SAML, OAuth) a plus
• Experience working in a SOC 2 environment
• Experience deploying into a customer's own cloud tenant or an air-gapped / network-isolated environment
• Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, or other regulated and sovereign cloud experience
• Background in a regulated industry such as nuclear, healthcare, defense, finance, or critical infrastructure
• GPU infrastructure and LLM serving experience (vLLM, model gateways, capacity and quota planning)
• Experience running search or vector database infrastructure at scale
• Familiarity with Cloudflare (DNS, Zero Trust, Pages, Workers)
